Conditions were very favorable for this vintage. After a cold January, temperatures in February and March were very mild, promoting early budbreak. Spring was cool and damp, except during the second half of April and June. These spring delays caused the vines’ growth to slow down.
From the very first day of summer, the weather changed dramatically, becoming hot and dry—conditions that were highly favorable for the development of the grapes’ aromatic and phenolic potential. This was followed by two heat waves in late June and late July, and a rainy spell in early August. Early September remained summer-like. The Merlot grapes were harvested early to preserve the balance needed for refined wines.

Tasting
This 2019 château Cartier is appealing with its dark color, tinged with a hint of ochre at the rim. This wine shows real structure. The initial nose reveals freshness. The first aromas are menthol-like, almost like peppermint. When swirled, these aromas intensify tenfold and are enhanced by subtle truffle notes. One can already sense an opulence that invites you to savor it without delay. The palate is very inviting. It is smooth and full-bodied. It has a very nice, slightly milky texture with truffle notes once again. Its generosity reinforces the wine’s velvety character. A hint of energy, reminiscent of the estate’s clay-limestone terroir, rounds out the palate. Meticulous aging has produced a beautiful balance and solid structure, prolonging the immediate pleasure.
