Millésime 2018

Millésime 2018

Dark plum and blackberry compote notes form the core, while hints of licorice snap and fruitcake form the backdrop. Nice grippy, tarry streak on the finish adds length and drive. Should cellar well. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2034. 2,916 cases made. — JM

There is an enjoyable hawthorn and bramble edge, quite different in feel from the others. More freshly cut herbs, with rosemary and sage notes. A little high in acidity on a finish that brings things to an end slightly abruptly. 30% new oak, a yield of 30hl/ha. Biodynamic and organic.

A biodynamic Alain Moueix property that is certified organic on the limestone plateau with clay on the slopes. 82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc picked relatively early from 17 September to 1 October. Aged in 30% new barrels and 70% second use.

First bottle tasted on 23 January 2021: Terrible TCA so no score.
Second bottle tasted on 12 February 2021: Lustrous dark blackish crimson. Rich spread of aromas that constitute an intriguing cocktail of fruit, dried fruits and tar followed by real energy on the palate. Some velvety quality. Ideally wait until the light oaky imprint before drinking. Clean, rather refreshing finish.

Finesse styled, this is fresh, soft, sweet, silky and fruity with a medium-bodied, red berry filled core of fruits. This is already disarmingly easy to drink and yet, it should age and evolve quite nicely for at least 12-15 years.
